Once again, I relished theOnce again, I relished the entire Thanksgiving experience. The party for the most part centered in the kitchen, watching Mom and me whip up the double deucetwo twelve pound birds(see inset). We stuffed one with traditional stuffing and the other with an apple walnut variation. Dinner came off without a major hitch and the company combined with such a feast created a perfect day. While taking a breather outside in the quiet twirling snow, the realization of how lucky I am and how thankful I should be struck me and I offered a toast to the great unknown for blessing someone so as unworthy as I. Also, I was drunk. More pics to follow... Posted at Nov 29, 2002 - ...see the full post... |
November 2002
Yesterday, I had planned toYesterday, I had planned to leave New York at 6PM, but after showing the radar map at weather.com to my boss, he gladly allowed me to leave early. I hoped to race a massive storm front to my home town, it from the West, me from the East. While the gray and white pixels on the screen moved out of West Virginia and began to blanket the Pittsburgh region, I hurtled across North Jersey running a rented Ford Focus, all four tiny cylinders whining with the effort. The weather held until about seventy-miles from home. Horizontal snow and tractor trailers created a Star Wars-esque videogame experience that had no reset. Two and half upright tense knuckled hours later brought me to then end of the road where the Ford was able to claw through the half foot of snow into the driveway. Happy to be out of the car and out of New York, inside the warm home, I took this shot of the still raging blizzard. Posted at Nov 27, 2002 - ...see the full post... |
Despite the warnings of aDespite the warnings of a major snowstorm, I'm headed to that crazy town of Altoona, PA tonight. I've decided not to take the holiday off when it comes to this site though, so you all can rest easy. I'm going to try and stake out the mall for some good mullet photos so stay tuned. Erik is making a studentErik is making a student film and I volunteered last night to help with the auditions. We had about twenty professional actors do short screen tests, reading a small scene with me. Some were much better than others and one actress in particular stole my heart, but unfortunately she was only acting. |
My friend Joslyn's shoes. I'mMy friend Joslyn's shoes. I'm not really into shoes, but I thought these were interesting for their pointy-ness. Also, I'm trying to reduce the number of generic people-in-a-bar photos. Joslyn gathers shoe designs for Victoria's Secret so she ends up on funded shopping trips to places all over the world. I'm not a big fan of shopping, but I do like to travel so I'm a touch jealous of her job. I went to a going away party for Kevin and Joy last night. When people move I generally handle it with denial, so I won't mention much more other than I hope Kevin and Joy have a nice vacation in Seattle and hopefully we can do dinner when they return. I watched the tail end of Legally Blonde last night before going out. That fact that I would admit something that embarrassing may add validity to the other things I write here. Reese Witherspoon is hot, if you like that type. After the movie they interviewed a bunch of Harvard law students, several of which claimed similarities to Reese. Apparently mirrors don't work at Ivy League schools. Posted at Nov 21, 2002 - ...see the full post... |
We celebrated Jeff Martini's birthdayWe celebrated Jeff Martini's birthday at Daddy's in Williamsburg. I don't want to be near sunlight. These are the two childrenThese are the two children I got to play with during a rainy weekend in the Poconos at Kevin's cabin (thanks for the pic, Kevin). These two rugrats entertained themselves all day and behaved better than me. The small one, Helena, followed her older sister, Julia, around, trying to participate in all the same activites, but often content to just watch. Julia made a hobby of rolling her sister over which produced much giggling. Great kids. I also enjoyed getting to know their parents, particularly their mother's cooking and their father's taste for red wine. Heidi and Johannes whipped up a dinner of filet mignon and rosemary potatoes that was served with two bottles of Austrian wine from Johannes' home.

WEEKEND RECAP: PART 1 -WEEKEND RECAP: NEW! Mary's and Aaron's B-Day Small Gathering - Drunken immaturity in honor of the ones we love. PART 2 - Still to come, a description of a trip to the Poconos where I indulged the quieter aspects of my personality. I also played with children and enjoyed it immensely. Oh golly does my headOh golly does my head hurt. I met Erik at the Cedar Tavern after work yesterday and then we went to location scout at the Blue and Golddiviest of the dives. After a lot of beers, we had a serious and contructive conversation on how to gain political control of the country. The only plausible idea put forth involved brain washing Ted Turner. On the right: Later in the evening, Josolyn and I tore it up with Misha, Joy, and Kevin at Guarnica on Avenue B. Posted at Nov 15, 2002 - ...see the full post... |
Morning meeting. Will add someMorning meeting. Will add some text later. It's later. On the left, Brad models his mustache. I really think these will comeback into fashion despite how revolting they seem now. Remember in 1988 when bell bottoms were so abhorrant that we pegged our jeans to produce the exact opposite. Sideburns were meant to be shaved high up the side of the head. Bellbottoms and sideburns seemed impossible terrible then, and then they became acceptable once again. It will happen to mustaches. On the right, Jerry received an anonymous gift of a Homestar Runner t-shirt. How happy is Jer? This happy. Posted at Nov 14, 2002 - ...see the full post... |
Last night I tried toLast night I tried to meet some friends at Von, but they were in the back roomnand I was at the bar, so we missed each other. I drank Brooklyn Lager and had a nice chat with the bartender before I snuck home to try and finally conquer GTAIII (a video game). I need to complete one more mission and I just got the tank. The tank is cool. This morning on my way to work I realized that "Two Boots" is an ingenious name for a Cajun Pizza parlor; the two boots refer to Italy and Louisiana. There is a chain of Two Boots downtown and I knew what the name referred to before. I just thought it very clever today. When I was little and I came into the warm house after playing out in the snow, my cheeks would instantly turn rose colored. They don't do that anymore so I'm guessing that it's only a phenomenon for young cheeks...or else they are protected by my beard! Posted at Nov 13, 2002 - ...see the full post... |
Due to VETERAN'S Day (misspelledDue to VETERAN'S Day (misspelled terribly yesterday, yet no one emailed me) I did not have class tonight. Being the cool guy that I am, I had planned to go to the library, but it is closed on Mondays. Too tired to write, yet with a ton of free time, I decided to cook. Even though I live very close to Little Bombay and the cheapest Indian food in the city, I decided to try my hand at Chicken Tikka Masala(see today's site for the recipe). It came out very well and I have enough left overs for the rest of the week, but it doesn't quite taste right. The best part of the experience was discussing garam masala with the nice man at the Indian market on the corner of 6th & 1st Ave. It's a spice combination that is the Indian equivalent of Emeril's Essence (which is really just cajun powder). |
Happy Veteran's Day.Happy Veteran's Day. Not much of a weekend recap, although it was a good one. I'll be adding some new stuff to the site tonight. Not really worth checking back for. The picture is Freak, my new beard, and me. I'm trying to make it a Thanksgiving tradtition to grow a beard. Don't ask why. |
This evening I went toThis evening I went to a party celebrating the third anniversery (traditionaly leather) of The Morning News. I became aware of this site via a friend of Jerry's from North Carolina named Sarah Knowles and was soon a big fan. Always looking to meet new people I swung by after work with my friend Tyler. Walking in was a tad intimidating because we were early and the crowd was still thin, but then I was immediately greeted with the cry, "Are you Jerry's brother?"—a blessing and curse I have enjoyed my whole life. Sarah's cousin Rachel—fiancee to Rosecrans, co-founder of The Morning News—had exclaimed the question and we soon made introductions. Rachel was an ebullent hostess and Tyler and I fell into several conversations with the suddenly growing crowd. I did not get to chat with Rosecrans, but I must say he was very well dressed. The large turnout was flattering to The Morning News, but the masses combined with my incredible hangover soon caused Tyler and I to flee to a quiet bench at Iona. I did get to meet some very nice folks that I hope to share drinks with again. As an added bonus I also got to talk quality with Tyler who, due to to neither of our faults but more to blame on the East River, I see less often than I like. I had a great weekendI had a great weekend with Jer at Matt's house. Lot's of football and X Box. Tried to take the 10PM train home last night, but it was delayed 2 hours so I came back this morning. More pics to come of our target practice. Posted at Nov 04, 2002 - ...see the full post... |
